Over the course of about a month and a half, I worked with a team to create a museum app redesign for the Getty. My role in this was a UI developer, I prototyped and created screen designs in Adobe XD with another team member. We had some file version compatibility issues that eventually slowed us down, leading our full UX design group to transfer to Figma for later projects. We documented this entire process, showing our evolution of persona research. This work is speculative.

Research, Persona Creation

User Research
Our team created a proto-persona, and then later a revised persona based on the populus we interviewed.

Branding
Our brand needed to represent Getty using their brand guides without all the extra information. We used google materials for iconography.

UI
I worked with our other UI Designer to create flows and link ups for Browse and Info.

User Testing
In our user tests, we had group interviews as well as scripts to read from. We found out users were getting hung up on QR Code scanning and wanted more navigation features. Users also pointed out some un-intuitive file locations, ex. expecting Plan your Visit under Home, not Info.

Key Takeaways
Working with a diverse group of users across different regions showed us how much cultural context and accessibility influence the way people move through an app. Interviewing multiple personas and running group testing sessions gave us a clearer picture of real user behavior, helping us identify patterns and pain points that wouldn’t have surfaced through a single method.
On the collaboration side, the project also highlighted how important clear file organization and version control are when working across multiple devices; our early missteps there eventually slowed us down and became a larger challenge. Overall, this project reinforced the value of combining thoughtful user research with strong team workflows to support a smoother design process.
